When I listened to the audiobook, “Half the Sky” by Nicholas Kristoff, I was blown away by the sheer magnitude of modern day slavery, i.e. human trafficking. 27 Million people worldwide. A heinous crime, but I was shocked to learn that several Muslim countries also lead in human trafficking. That of the 17 countries that were given the “Tier 3″ listing reserved for the worst offenders, nine were Muslim countries or countries with a large Muslim population.
