Nearly a month has passed since the execution-style murder of three young men, two of them Muslim, in Fort Wayne, Indiana. We have to keep the memory Taha Omar, Adam Mekki and Mohannad Tairab alive and continue to pressure the authorities for answers. I am consciously writing these lines after this “story” has left the news-cycle. Our concern should not be a reflection of editorial decisions, rather, our human concern.

Unfortunately, far too many murders of black folks, poor folks or immigrants go unresolved in this country. These three youths, who met such a tragic demise, fit into each category. To illustrate this point, a recent study revealed that the murder of a white or Asian individual in San Francisco is almost twice as likely to result in an arrest than the murder of an African American or a Latino, 67.1% to 37.1%.

Our condolences to their families, and we pray that they, as well as our community, can get a sense of closure by seeing the perpetrators of this gruesome crime brought to justice.
